Barnhall u14 travelled to Edenderry to fulfil an u14 friendly fixture. These two sides met a few months early, with barnhall wining 26-10 at home. The game kicked off in wet conditions Edenderry proved that they were up for this game from the off with barnhall being put under pressure. Barnhall settled down and got their first points on the board when captain tom McGuirk intercepting a loose Edenderry pass and ran from their 10 metre in for a try ...more

RECORD NUMBER OF BARNHALL PLAYERS IN METROPOLITAN TEAM
By Michael Mousley 14th of February 2007

The final game of the inter area youth series was played last week end in NUI and the Metro area team were deserving victors to take the grand slam, winning every match or the series.
This was not insignificant to Barnhall as the club had an unprecedented 11 players taking part. This was a record, even with Barnhall's long tradition of representative players.
The series went well for the boys, who have enjoyed training and playing at a higher level.
Two of the most solid performers were Alan O'Reilly and Eamon Daly .
Daly captained the team with great authority and could write the book on leading by example. A hard hitting & committed tackler, his power and pace broke the gain line each and every time he took the ball on. He is rated to be one of the hardest hitting backs at his age in Leinster.
O'Reilly was outstanding in the pack and his dominance in the line-out especially caught the eye as well as his enormous work rate and commitment in the tackle.
Ray Flynn showed his versatility when he made the switch from out-half to scrum half and shined in the new position, despite very little experience playing at 9. His passing and ability to spot a gap were impressive, as was his lethal side step.
Peter Hall also impressed, having only started playing rugby this season, he held his own in the squad and played one full game at prop, in which he performed admirably. Also propping was Gavin Egan , again doing well at loose head in his first season in the front row.
Our 16s captain Ben Moore was used at flanker and performed with his trademark total commitment.
Padraig Beatty made a comeback from his injury problems and made the transition from hooker to centre with ease, putting in one very solid performance.
The two wings were covered by Dermot Feeney and Mark Gleeson , who both have absolutely frightening pace. Look out senior players in a few years !
The future looks bright for two younger players, Joe Taylor and Kevin White . Both made the squad this year and played in every game but as they are both a year younger than the rest of the boys they will be eligible for selection again next season. White played solid at hooker and the accuracy of his line out throwing is as good as you will see at any level of rugby. Add to this his excellent play in the tight and he promises to really shine next season. Taylor, still an U15, remarkably played in every single position in the backs outside of scrum half. Performing well, his excellent handling skills and running lines make him one to watch for Barnhall's traditional open rugby.

All in all, the future looks bright - the future looks BLUE !!!!

DEPLETED BARNHALL PUT ON VALIANT DISPLAY
Under 14's 13th of February 2007

Mainly due to flu and sickness Barnhall being nearly 10 players down could barley manage to field a team for the first round fixture against tournament favourites Navan . In fact when the score line read Barnhall 0 Navan 32 at half time it looked like it was going to be a very bad day at the office ...more
